File Manager for Hisense TV — Compatibility First

Hisense sells TVs with four different operating systems, and this causes massive confusion when people search for "Hisense TV file manager." The critical thing to know upfront:

AnExplorer works on Hisense Google TV models ONLY. It does NOT work on Hisense VIDAA, Hisense Roku TV, or Hisense Fire TV Edition. This page explains which models are compatible, how to install, and what to do if your Hisense TV runs a different operating system.

This isn't a limitation of AnExplorer specifically — it's a fundamental platform restriction imposed by the operating system. VIDAA and Roku are closed operating systems that don't allow any Android app installation whatsoever. Only Google TV (which is built on Android) can run AnExplorer and other Android apps.

Which Hisense TV Do You Have?

Hisense OSCan install AnExplorer? How to identify
Google TV✅ Yes (Play Store)Home screen shows "For You" tab, Google Play Store available
Android TV (older models)✅ Yes (Play Store)Similar to Google TV but older interface
VIDAA❌ NoHorizontal app bar, VIDAA App Store, no Google Play
Roku TV❌ NoRoku home screen with channel tiles
Fire TV Edition⚠️ Sideload onlyAmazon home screen, Appstore (not Play Store)

How to check: Settings → About → look for "Operating System" or "Software Version." Google TV models show "Google TV" or "Android TV" with a version number.

If You Have Hisense Google TV

You're in luck — full AnExplorer support with all features:

Installation: Play Store → search "AnExplorer" → Install. Takes 30 seconds, no sideloading needed.

What you can do:

  • Browse USB drives plugged into the TV's USB ports
  • Connect to your NAS via SMB (stream movies, browse photo archives)
  • Sideload APK files (apps not in the TV Play Store)
  • Manage TV storage (clear caches, delete old files)
  • Play media files (video, audio) from any source with the built-in player

D-pad navigation: AnExplorer's TV interface is fully optimized for remote control. Every menu, dialog, and file operation works with up/down/left/right/select buttons. No mouse or keyboard needed. The interface uses large text, high-contrast elements, and focus indicators designed for viewing from across the room — not a phone interface stretched to a big screen.

Performance on Hisense hardware: Hisense Google TVs typically use MediaTek processors with 2-3 GB RAM. AnExplorer runs smoothly on this hardware — file browsing is instant, NAS connections are responsive, and media playback uses hardware decoding for efficient performance without stuttering.

Storage reality: Most Hisense TVs ship with 8-16 GB internal storage, of which 4-6 GB is consumed by the OS and pre-installed apps. This leaves very little room for downloaded content. AnExplorer's approach — streaming from NAS or playing from USB — avoids filling up internal storage entirely. Keep media on external storage and use the TV's internal space only for apps.

If You Have Hisense VIDAA TV

Unfortunately, VIDAA cannot run Android apps. Your options for file management are limited:

  • USB browsing: VIDAA has a basic built-in media player that can browse USB drives for photos, videos, and music. It's limited (no file management, no NAS, no archives) but handles basic media playback.
  • DLNA/screen mirroring: Some VIDAA TVs support DLNA for streaming from a media server, or screen mirroring from your phone. AnExplorer on your phone can manage files and cast media to the TV via Chromecast if your VIDAA TV supports it.
  • No workaround exists: There is no way to install Android APKs on VIDAA. Guides claiming otherwise are incorrect or refer to older models that ran Android.

If you need full file management on your TV: Consider a streaming device that runs Android (Chromecast with Google TV at ~$30, Nvidia Shield at ~$150, or Amazon Fire TV Stick at ~$40) connected to your Hisense VIDAA TV's HDMI port. Then install AnExplorer on that device. This gives you full file management, NAS access, and sideloading capabilities regardless of your TV's native OS. The Chromecast with Google TV is the most affordable option that provides full Play Store access for AnExplorer.

If You Have Hisense Fire TV Edition

Hisense Fire TV Edition runs Amazon's Fire OS (Android-based but without Google Play Store). You can sideload AnExplorer:

  1. Enable Developer Options: Settings → My Fire TV → About → click Build Number 7 times
  2. Enable Install Unknown Apps: Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options → Install Unknown Apps → enable for Downloader
  3. Install Downloader app from Amazon Appstore
  4. Use Downloader to download AnExplorer APK
  5. Install and use

See our Fire TV sideloading guide for detailed steps.

Common Tasks on Hisense Google TV

Accessing NAS movie library

  1. Open AnExplorer → Network → SMB → tap +
  2. Enter your NAS IP address, share name, username, password
  3. Connect → browse your movie folders
  4. Tap any video to play on the big screen
  5. Bookmark the connection for instant access next time

Playing media from USB

  1. Plug USB drive into Hisense TV's USB port
  2. Open AnExplorer → USB drive appears in sidebar
  3. Navigate to your media folder
  4. Tap any video or audio file to play

Sideloading apps

  1. On your phone: AnExplorer → Wi-Fi Share → Send → select APK file
  2. On your Hisense TV: AnExplorer → Wi-Fi Share → Receive
  3. APK transfers to the TV
  4. Navigate to the received file → tap to install
  5. Enable "Install unknown apps" for AnExplorer if prompted

Managing limited storage

Hisense TVs typically have 8-16 GB internal storage. AnExplorer helps you make the most of it:

  • Storage Analysis shows exactly what's consuming space — apps, cache, system, downloads
  • Memory Cleaner clears app caches in one tap (often recovers 500 MB - 2 GB of wasted space)
  • Move files to USB — select downloaded files → Cut → navigate to USB drive → Paste. Frees internal space immediately.
  • Identify bloatware — see which pre-installed apps consume the most space. While you can't uninstall system apps without root, you can disable them (Settings → Apps → select app → Disable) to prevent them from updating and consuming more space.

Troubleshooting Hisense TV Issues

"AnExplorer not found in Play Store" — your Hisense TV may be running VIDAA, not Google TV. Check Settings → About. If it's VIDAA, AnExplorer cannot be installed (see the VIDAA section above for alternatives).

USB drive not showing — try a different USB port. Some Hisense TVs have one port designated for service/update only. Format the drive as FAT32 or exFAT if it's currently NTFS. Try a powered USB hub if the drive needs more power than the TV provides.

NAS connection timeout — ensure your TV is connected via Ethernet (more reliable than Wi-Fi for sustained streaming). If using Wi-Fi, connect to the 5 GHz band. Check that your NAS's SMB service is enabled and the firewall isn't blocking the TV's IP address.
